Following the Hoxsey Cancer Treatment Diet means we eat a lot of fresh food that is preservative free.  Fresh food made without preservatives presents problems when you try to store it for any length of time.  It’s really amazing how quickly food spoils when it’s not chalk full of all those nasty preservatives.  Delicious fresh, home made bread or preservative free bread purchased at the health food store doesn’t last long out in the open.  It’s okay if you keep it frozen, but if it’s out it spoils fairly quickly. 

So how do you get around it?  The trick is using a vacuum sealer.  Vacuum sealing the bread keeps the air out, keeps the bread fresher longer, and keeps it from spoiling. 

We also use our vacuum sealer to vacuum seal fresh fruit and vegetables and then freeze them in the summer so we can enjoy them all year long.  Vacuum sealing prevents freezer burn and keeps fresh produce fresh. 

The vacuum sealer is so easy to use that we keep it on the counter and reseal our bread after each use.

We’ve done some shelf life testing and put a loaf of home made bread (made using the Healthy Pleasure Bread Mix) that we vacuum sealed and left out on a shelf (at room temperature) for 4 weeks.  We opened it the other day and it didn’t have a speck of mold on it and was as fresh as the day we baked it.  It was amazing!
